JUSTIFIED COLLABORATION = HUGE RATINGS

For the past 4 months the Spillt team has been working collaboratively with the crew at FX Networks to define a new look for their new series “Justified,” starring Timothy Olyphant and written by Elmore Leonard. Working directly with FX in-house design team, multiple styles were molded and tested to define the overall feeling of the show in supporting promo graphics and show title builds. Initially beginning with a graphic approach, this style was gradually refined into a rich film based world. The FX crews shot b-roll footage on location. This footage was heavily treated, refined and cut to define the damp, rich, natural and raw nature of the Southern Tennessee area of which the show story resides in. As the FX creative department worked on designing logos, textural treatments and new edits, the Spillt crew was working vivaciously on refining these elements in unique aspects. A promo and show toolkit was produced to allow the FX team to pick and choose which element was most successful in any given element needed for the promo campaign. Overall, this amazing project is a great example of creative collaboration between client and vendor. It was a pleasure to work with such an amazing team at FX and be a part of this great project. The overall results of this promo campaign translated into the most successful ratings for a premiere on the network since “The Shield”. A whopping 4.16 million Total Viewers tuned in to watch the premiere, making this the second all time highest ratings for a premiere on basic cable. Of course we all know that Timothy Olyphant had a lot to do with that as well. Check out the show site and schedules here and some press here and here.

The toolkit was comprised of Opens, Closes, End-pages, transitions and a slew of open ended editing tool kits. Colors were enhanced, masked and re-composited for a unique, two-toned footage style. This gave us a style high in contrast without the standard antique look.

UPDATE: We just got word that Elastic completed the Main Titles for this show with some of the text. Great work guys! This project was the part of many studios efforts, working with Fox studios to complete this amazing show.
